Dubai Design Week 2015 (vol. I)

The first Dubai Design Week (DXBDW) took place between 26 and 31 October 2015, in synch with the launch of Dubai Design District (d3) initiative. D3 creative community – first phase- was delivered this year and it is part of a wider development scheme by the award-winning architects Foster and Partners due to 2021 – namely Dubai Plan 2021 – when Dubai aspire to assert itself as a genuine design capital.

During Dubai Design Week we had the chance to witness local and international designs, installations and events in the newly established d3 and other locations across the city such as universities, organizations, stores and galleries. Within this context, there is the third edition of Downtown design – the commercial design fair of Middle East – with famous international brands such as Bolon, Kartell, Kvadrat, Herman Miller, Minotti, Moroso, The Rug Company and Lasvit to participate. Under ‘Destination’ banner six international design weeks from a diversity of global cities – Beijing, Helsinki, Istanbul, Melbourne, Mexico City and San Francisco – were showcased at Downtown Design. With a collection of three brands of each, they represented the spirit of the city to which they belong. Highlights that raised our interest follows, especially when it came to lighting.
